This brand has one of the largest volunteer programs in the country, through which it has managed to promote social and environmental awareness both inside and outside the company:
“Thanks to our Model Volunteers program, since 2014 we have a firm commitment to the Mexican coasts, year after year we continue adding kilometers of beach and volunteers convinced of taking care of the planet, in 2019 we managed to clean 45 beaches in 15 states of the republic thanks to the more than 5.9K voluntary participations, collecting 94 tons of garbage.”

For Cerveza Corona, a series of rings were designed for the six packs that are environmentally friendly, made from vegetables and biodegradable fibers.
Use of returnable bottles
“They return to our breweries to be washed and filled with beer again. 70% of our packaging is returnable. “We prevented the production of 1.6 million tons of glass.”

Compostable cups:
“In each edition of the “Corona Capital” music festival, 100% biodegradable cups made with cornstarch are used. After use, they are ground and composted in order to be used as fertilizer for our barley crops.”
Recycling
All this environmental effort also encouraged the company's recycling percentage to increase:
“We implemented and improved a management process for the return of unused glass bottles in our agencies to our shop windows so that they can be recycled. We use approximately 103,000 tons of glass, 15% more than last year.”
They also have a reincorporation system for the glass production process to avoid waste at this point.
This year, we managed to remove almost 10 thousand tons of glass from the environment to incorporate it into our operations, and recycle it into new containers.

Alternative energy sources
Mexico began to move towards a sustainable future with the celebration of an Energy Supply Contract with the companies Iberdrola and Ammper, which will allow us to meet our goal by 2025 so that 100% of the electricity we buy for our breweries and manufacturing plants vertical operation comes from renewable sources.
Thermal energy
Step by step, the company and its brands have been migrating the energy that comes from non-renewable sources to cleaner fuels:
We increased the use of natural gas by up to 95%, one of the cleanest fossil fuels there is.
The remaining 5% will be supplied with biogas, recovered from anaerobic wastewater treatment plants at our complexes.

“11% of our transportation fleet from the breweries to the agencies had a 2.5% reduction in weight, which allowed us to increase the amount of material transported per trip.”
Thanks to this, Grupo Modelo reduced 200 trips per year and during 2018 increased the use of rail; replaced 1,528 truck trips with 1,019 rail trips.
